Be Hospitable!

Hebrews 13:2 reads, "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it."

Leon Morris writes, "The writer is not advocating hospitality on the off chance that one might happen to receive an angel as guest but rather because God is pleased when believers are hospitable. Sometimes unexpectedly happy results follow acts of hospitality. It was highly esteemed in the ancient world and was certainly very important for Christians. Accommodation at inns was expensive, and in any case inns had a bad reputation. But as Christian preachers traveled around, believers gave them lodging and so facilitated their mission. Without hospitality in Christian homes, the spread of the faith would have been much more difficult."

The truth is clear. God uses the acts of hospitality of Christians to spread His love. Look for ways to invite guests into your home.

A Song Filled Heart

Do songs of praise to God flood your soul? Is there an overwhelming sense of joy and peace in your life? The filling of the Spirit makes this possible.

Believers are commanded to be filled (controlled, yielded to) the Holy Spirit. "Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts." (Eph. 5:18-19 NLT)

Yes, the spirit-filled Christian enjoys a song-filled heart. The fruits of the spirit-filled life are also evident. Some of these are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).

Would you like for these characteristics to describe you? Do you want a song-filled heart? You Can!

Prayer: "Lord, I want to be filled with your presence. I release control of my life and ask for You to take control. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

ALIVE!

"Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins. You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. . . but God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so very much, that even while we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's special favor that you been saved!) For He raised us from the dead along with Christ, and we are seated with Him in the heavenly realms - all because we are one with Christ Jesus."
(Eph. 2:1-2, 4-6 NLT)

Yes, believer - You are alive in Christ Jesus. Thank God for salvation!

The Changing Of The Seasons

The changing of the seasons should remind us of God's faithfulness. He created the times and seasons and promises that they will continue until the end of the earth. God said to Noah, "as long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." (Genesis 8:22)

Yes, the changing of the seasons should focus our praise on the Creator!

Return To The Lord!

How easy it is for a believer to drift away from a close fellowship with the Lord! It happens when one tries to find rest and satisfaction in something or someone, instead of their Lord (see Isaiah 55:2). The result is that believers (like Israel) find themselves in exile (bondage) and away from the blessings of God.

Does that describe you today? The good news is that God is calling out to you. Isaiah 55:6-7 reads: "Seek the Lord while he may be found, call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."

Return to Your Lord! He is waiting on you.

The Lord Sustains The Humble

Keep Trusting The Lord

There is peace and security for those who trust in the Lord. Psalm 112:7-8 states - concerning the righteous man. "He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear. . . "

Christian, keep trusting your Lord no matter what you hear today. The key to peace is resting in and trusting your Lord!

Job Satisfaction!

Has the ordinary, everyday routine of your job or life gotten you down? Job satisfaction does not originate with your work or place of employment. Satisfaction and the enjoyment of life flows out of a relationship with God!

The Bible states: "A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness."
(Ecclesiastes 2:24-26)

May your satisfaction and enjoyment of life flow from God today!

Obedient Servants Of Christ Are Blessed

"I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him, Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." (John 13:16-17)

Robert Coleman wrote, "Just as Jesus found blessedness in doing the Father's will, even so his followers would find theirs. This is the sole duty of a servant. It was true of Christ, and nothing less can ever be accepted as worthy of his disciple."

We must fully surrender to the will of our Lord! Once again Coleman explains, "unless there is this dedication to all we know he wants us to do now, however, immature our understanding may be, it is doubtful if we will ever progress further in his life and mission."

Wow! What sobering words! May we fully surrender to the person and work of our Lord!

Prayer: "Lord Jesus, I surrender all to you! Help me obey all I know of your will. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

"White as Snow!" A powerful picture of the forgiveness of sin. Nothing seems to appear brighter, cleaner, more beautiful than a new snow! That is the condition of a life forgiven and cleansed by God. David prayed, "wash me and I will be whiter than snow." (Psalm 51:7)

Have you asked God to forgive you? Why not right now?

Bind Us Together With Love!

"Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony." (Colossians 3:12-14 NLT)

Even Christians have faults! Christians even hurt each other! Yet, we must forgive and seek unity. How? The love of God is "what binds us together".

Prayer: "Lord, empower me to forgive others like You forgave me. Bind us together with love! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

1. Pray for them
2. Live Christ-like
3. Listen / Watch for opportunities
4. Be prepared to witness (I Peter 3:15)
5. Pray for other Christians to influence them
6. Introduce them to committed Christians
7. Send someone to witness
8. Plan gatherings for family and friends
9. Share your faith with them
10. Don't give up (Galatians 6:9)

God Is For Us!

"If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:31-32)

Warren Wiersbe wrote, "In His person and providence, God is for us. Sometimes, like Jacob, we lament, 'all things are against me' (Genesis 42:36), when actually everything is working for us. The conclusion is obvious: If God be for us, who can be against us?"

Believer, do you feel like everything is against you? Rest in the fact that your Father wants the best for you. He is at work in your life.

"They Shall See God!"

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." (Matthew 5:8)

There are several people I would like to see. Family members who died before I was born. Famous people, Bible characters, etc...but, imagine seeing God!

The pure in heart (the saved!) shall see God! Praise His Name!

Watch God Work!

"Moses answered the people, do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring to you today." (Exodus 14:13)

The Israelites saw the Egyptian army pursuing them. They were overwhelmed with fear and began to panic. Moses encouraged them to stand firm and watch God deliver them from the enemy.

Chuck Swindoll said, "problems are opportunities in disguise".

Are you experiencing a frightening situation? Don't be afraid. Stand firm and watch God work!

Be Merciful

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." (Matthew 5:7)

Believers are merciful to others. "The believer does not show mercy to obtain mercy, he shows it because he has obtained mercy." (Liberty Commentary)

"Mercy" or showing mercy (merciful) is a characteristic of the saved. Are you merciful?

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for showing mercy to me when you forgave me. May I show mercy to others! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

God Sustains His People

"Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." (Isaiah 46:3-4)

God promised to sustain the "house of Jacob". He also promises to sustain all believers. I Peter 5:7 reads; "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you".

Believer, God is in control of your circumstances. He will sustain you! Give your burdens to Him!

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for carrying me and sustaining me through my difficult circumstances. Help me rely on You! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Fearful? Take A Good Look At The Birds! (Part 2)

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father and even the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So, don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31)

"Don't be afraid" (of persecutions as a result of sharing the gospel, 10:17). God is in control of your life. Not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God's knowledge and will (29).

Share your faith today!

Fearful? Take A Good Look At The Birds! (Part 1)

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father and even the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So, don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31)

Sparrows are small common birds. They are not very colorful and seem to blend in with other types of birds. They all seem to look alike, yet there are over 50 different species in North and South America alone. Even though sparrows seem very insignificant, God says that He considers them valuable and is in control of their lives.

We live in a fearful world. You may think of yourself as an insignificant speck in a sea of humanity, yet God says, "do not fear, I'm watching over you and you are valuable to me". (Mattthew 10:31)

Are you fearful? Meditate on these promises from God, then take a good look at the birds!

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for reminding me of your love and care for me. Thank you that I do not have to be afraid. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Those Who Seek Spiritual Nourishment Will Be Satisfied

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." (Matthew 5:6)

How do I know if I am "hungry or thirsty" for righteousness?

Is there a dissatisfaction concerning your spiritual life? (see Romans 7:22f). In other words, are you wanting to be more Christlike?

Do you have a craving for God's Word? (see I Peter 2:2)

Jesus promised a "blessed and satisfied life for those who seek His righteousness!" Begin today!

Prayer: "Lord, give me a spiritual hunger and thirst for you. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Prayer

In the New Testament book of James, we learn several things about praying. James teaches about:

1. Faith-filled prayers (1:5-8) “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting”
2. Missing prayers (4:2b) “Yet you do not have because you do not ask.”
3. Selfish prayers (4:3) “you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures”
4. Unselfish prayers (5:16a) “pray for one another”
5. Effective, fervent prayers (5:16b) “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Learning To Be Content

Philippians 4:11-13 reads, ". . . for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength."

Yes, contentment is "learned!" It begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ. It develops when you learn to rely on His strength and provision in "any and every situation". Praise God for this awesome reality!

Prayer: "Lord, teach me to rely on Your strength and provision in "any and every situation". In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Return To The Lord!

". . . listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your forefathers?" (Joel 1:2)

The prophet, Joel, proclaimed that the devastating locust plague was God's punishment for Judah's sins! There was a complete destruction of their agricultural based economy! Yet, there was still hope! In Joel 2:12-14, God extends an offer of forgiveness and restoration. "Even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing. . ."

Prayer: "Lord, forgive us and restore Your blessings upon our land. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Blessed Are They That Mourn (Part 2)

Matthew 5:4 reads, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Mourn? The reference is to mourning over one's sins. The reference can also be mourning over the sins of one's nation.

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)

Believers should mourn over the sinfulness of our nation. We should seek to live holy lives so as to be "salt and light" to our nation.

Prayer: "Lord, send a revival and spiritual awakening across our country! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Blessed Are They That Mourn

Matthew 5:4 reads, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Mourn? The reference is to mourning over one's sins. Our sins separate us from a Holy God. Our sins lead to unanswered prayers!

"Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." (Isaiah 59:12)

Prayer: "Lord, forgive me today of any sin. May my life reflect Your holiness. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Unanswered Prayer

Sometimes our prayers go unanswered because of our sinfulness. Psalm 66:18 reads, "If I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear." Yet, when we acknowledge our sins, repent of them and ask God's forgiveness, then God will hear us.

Psalm 66:19-20 reads, "But certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer nor His lovingkindness from me." (NASB)

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for answered prayers! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Jesus, Our Calm In The Storms

Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him saying, "Lord, save us, we're going to drown! He replied, you of little faith, why are you so afraid? Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm." (Matthew 8:24-26)

When the disciples realized they were helpless in the storm, they called on Jesus. Jesus calmed the storm and the fear of the disciples turned to amazement at the power of Jesus! He was with them all along, yet they needed only to call upon him!

In a storm? Call upon Him today!

Prayer: "Lord, remove the fears from my life. Replace it with amazement at Your power! In Jesus' Name, Amen."
