Tell The World That "Love" Has Come! (Part 3)

The shepherds were told by angels that the Savior was born in Bethlehem. They hurried to see for themselves. "So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this child" (Luke 2:16-17).

What "statement" or news did the shepherds share? The news that "Jesus is Christ (the promised Messiah!) the Lord." (Luke 2:11b). Jesus is the Messiah (Luke 1:32-33, II Samuel 7:12-14). Jesus is Lord! (Diety! the Son of God! 1:32b).

May we, as believers, be faithful to share the good news that Jesus is the Mesiah - He Is Lord!

Prayer: "Lord, use me today to share the "good news"!

Tell The World That "Love" Has Come! (Part 2)

What "statement?" Like the news that "Jesus is the Savior".
Luke 2:11 reads, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior . . ."

The name "Jesus" means, "the Lord saves"! The angel told Joseph, "and she (Mary) shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21).

The shepherds told the news of the Savior. Believers, tell the news that the Savior has come!

Need Strength?

Christian, are you facing a coming storm? Maybe you are already in the middle of it. Financial storms, work-related storms, family or health related storms? Even storms of temptations. Here is a reminder from God . . ."The Lord gives strength to his people" (Psalm 29:11a).

Prayer: "Lord, You know my storm. Give me the strength to face it today. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Jesus Christ, The Promised Servant Of God

The prophet Isaiah foretold the Messiah's arrival on earth. Jesus Christ fulfilled those prophecies over 700 years later!

Isaiah said the Messiah would be God's servant. "Behold, my servant, whom I uphold . . ." (Isaiah 42:1a). Jesus Christ (God Himself!) was equal with God yet humbled himself "taking the form of a bond-servant and being made in the likeness of men, being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Philippians 2:7-8).

Yes, as foretold, Jesus served the Father, did the will of the Father
(John 6:38) and finished the work the Father gave him to do!

Prayer: "Jesus, thank you for choosing to pay the price of my sins on the cross. In Your Name, Amen!"

Thank God For Your Church Family

"But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord..." (II Thessalonians 2:13).

How blessed believers are to be members of a local congregation of God's church! Think about those of your local church. You love them deeply! How we should always thank God for them. Why not take a moment and thank God for your church family? If you are not presently active in a local church, you should be. Ask God to guide you to find a church home.

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for love! Thank you also for my church family! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Remove This Thorn!

The Apostle Paul was given a "thorn" (a physical or relational torment?) to keep him from becoming prideful as a result of his heavenly visions. Paul prayed for the "thorn" to be removed, yet God replied; "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect (works best!) in weakness" (II Corinthians 12:9).

Paul Barnett wrote concerning this passage: "These words of Christ to Paul should not be limited in their application to Paul as an apostle but apply to whatever experiences and circumstances of life render powerless the children of God. The one thing denied to them, which is exactly what most people demand above all, is to control their own destiny. As children of Adam, despite such this - worldly instruments of power as they may yield - intellect, health, wealth, influence, or position - they do, sooner or later, become powerless and vunerable. Upon such persons, who in their powerlessness - whether bodily, relational, financial or structural - call out to the Lord, the grace of Christ is shown and the power of Christ rests. The words of the Lord spoken to Paul, then, are universally applicable. They do not, however, call for resignation, which is passive and impersonal, but for acceptance, which is active and obedient to the Lord, who, in response to our prayer, continues to say, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Prayer: "Lord, may I experience Your power and presence in my trials of torment and weaknesses. I accept Your plans for my life. Reveal Your power! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Stability In The Storms Of Life

Proverbs 10:25 reads; "When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever."

Jesus said, "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who builds his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose and the winds blew and beat against that house and it fell with a great crash." (Matthew 7:24-27)

Need stability in your life? Hear His word and put those teachings into practice.

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for the promises of Your Word! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

A Call To Holy Living

Christians are expected to live holy lives. Peter wrote, "Obey God
because you are his children. Don't slip back into your old ways of doing evil; you didn't know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God - who chose you to be his children - is holy. For he himself has said you must be holy because I am holy."
(I Peter 1:14-16) NLT

Live holy! Don't slip back into your old ways of doing evil!

But what if a Christian has already slipped? To Christians, John wrote; "But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong." (I John 1:9) NLT

Be determined to live a holy life. If you have sinned (slipped), quickly confess your sin to God and seek His forgiveness.

Prayer: "Lord, grant that my life would reflect Your holiness. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Rejoice In What God Has Done For You!

Who was influential in sharing Jesus Christ to you? Maybe a parent, friend, teacher or pastor? Pause now and thank God for that person.

Who made it possible for you to be saved? God Alone!
I Corinthians 1:30-31 reads, "God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy and he gave himself to purchase our freedom. As the Scriptures say, The person who wishes to boast should boast only of what the Lord has done." (TLT)

Think about it; God alone made it possible for you to be saved. Thank Him this very moment.

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for making it possible for me to be saved! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Worship Your Creator

Creation reveals the power and sovereignty of our God. The Psalmist wrote, "By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." (Psalm 33:6,9)

Today, as you observe creation, pause and worship your Lord. The One who made it all is still in control!

Pray! Vote! Impact The Nation!

Should we as Christians vote in our nation's elections? ABSOLUTELY! Jesus taught us that we are "light" to a dark world (Matthew 5:14-16). We are to "shine" our light of influence. One way is by participating in the election process.

We are also to pray for those in authority over us. I Timothy 2:1-4 reads, "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Pause and pray now for our nation.

Be Content With What You Have

Hebrews 13:5 reads, "Keep your lives from the love of money and be content with what you have, because has said, "never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

William Barclay writes, "the Christian must be free from the love of money. He must be content with what he has, and why he should not be, for he possesses the continual presence of God?" The writer to the Hebrews quotes two great O.T. passages - - Joshua 1:5 and Psalm 118:6 to show that the man of God needs nothing more because he has with him always the presence and the help of God. Nothing that man can give him, no gift that earthly ambition can wring from life, can improve on that."

The words of the well known chorus are surely biblically correct, "Christ is all I need!"

God Blesses Sacrificial Giving

"But the King (David) replied to Araunah, No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen . . . David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord answered prayer in behalf of the land and the plague on Israel stopped." (II Samuel 24:24-25)

"You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus"

Do you need strength today? Paul reminded Timothy in this verse to rely on God's strength given by God's grace. "Grace" here refers to the free gift of God's help to those in need. God is more than willing to help you. Hebrews 4:16 reads; "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Believer, you should be serving God with a joyful spirit. Billy Graham wrote; "Faithfulness without joy becomes drudgery." Good News! Joy is a gift of God! Joy is the result of the Spirit-controlled life.

1. Through the local church, you receive instruction. The Lord gave "some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." (Ephesians 4:11-12)

2. Through the local church, you have the privilege of fellowship. God gives us families for our care, protection, fellowship and development. You need the local church for all the reasons you need a family!

Paul prayed for the Philippians the following prayer: "And this is my prayer, that Your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight."

Paul prayed that love might grow in the Philippians. Love grows out of a relationship with God. It is a fruit of the Spirit and essential to realizing all other spiritual graces. (I Corinthians 13:1-2) We as believers need to grow in God's love.

Prayer: "Lord, may Your love grow in me. In Jesus' Name. Amen!"

A Prayer For The Church (Part 2)

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:9-10)

Paul prayed for the Colossian believers to grow closer to Christ. The results would be a God-honoring life that would bear spiritual fruit. That is a good prayer for all believers. Take a moment and personalize this prayer to God.

Prayer: "Lord, fill me with the knowledge of Your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. I pray this in order that I may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please You in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Paul wanted the believers to be filled (totally controlled) by the Holy Spirit. Then, spiritual insight and discernment of God's will would be possible. Then, their personal knowledge of God would grow.

No Time To Quit!

Galatians 6:9 reads, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Keith Davis wrote, "Even in the Christian walk, we can grow weary in our work for the Lord. It may seem that no one cares that we work hard or that it yields very little. If you are feeling that way, you are in good company with some of the great characters in the Bible. People like Elijah, Moses and Noah must have felt the load of much work and sometimes little results. Elijah felt like quitting, Moses was overwhelmed with the daily work of hearing the people's concerns and Noah never had a convert outside of his family."

How can we overcome the temptation to give up working for Christ?

Keith Davis continues - - - "Let me share two verses of scripture with you:
I Corinthians 16:14, "Let all that you do be done in love." The motive of love in our work will fuel us when others are coming close to quitting. I Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore my beloved brother, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." God will accomplish His purposes through your work even when you do not see the results."

When we see results, we will be glad we were faithful! Keep Serving!

Don't Hinder The Children!

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14).

Make sure that you don't "hinder" what God is doing in your children. How do we sometimes "hinder" them, you might ask.

  1. We hinder them by not bringing them to church. Remember, they depend on YOU for transportation.
  2. We hinder them by not recognizing the importance of what God might be doing in their lives. Remember these were young children that Jesus blessed.
  3. We hinder them by cluttering their lives with other things so that there is little time for God or His church.

Prayer: "Lord, forgive me if I have hindered the children. May I point them to You and may You work in their lives. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Don't Give Up!

Have the troubles of your life led to the temptation to give up? Maybe you are ready to give up on a relationship, a goal or even a ministry. Paul knew about troubles and the temptations that followed. II Corinthians 4:16-18 reads, "We never give up. Our bodies are gradually dying, but we ourselves are being made stronger each day. These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all our troubles seem like nothing. Things that are seen don't last forever, but things that are not seen are eternal. That's why we keep our minds on the things that cannot be seen." (CEV)

Notice, Paul kept an eternal mindset. He believed . . .
1. He was growing spiritually (16)
2. Earthly troubles were preparation for eternal glory (17)
3. Earthly troubles were temporary while the spiritual is eternal (18)

Christian - Never Give Up!

Prayer: "Lord, give me grace for today and an eternal mindset to remain faithful. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Thank You, God, For Jesus!

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (Jesus)." (Colossians 3:17)

Believers must always remember to thank God for what He has done for them. Colossians 1:12-14 list several reasons to thank God.

1. God has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints.

2. God has rescued us from Satan's kingdom and has transferred us into the Kingdom of God.

3. God has redeemed us and forgiven our sins.

The Generous Giving Of The Macedonian Churches

Even though very poor, the Macedonian believers gave of themselves and their resources to do God's work. The believers in Judea needed help and churches were collecting funds to send to them. Paul wrote concerning the Macedonians: "They gave not only what they could afford, but far more; and I can testify that they did it because they wanted to, and not because of nagging on my part. They begged us to take the money so they could share in the joy of helping the Christians in Jerusalem."

Levie left his sin (see 1:77), left his income and position and followed Jesus.

Believer, what is holding you back from fully surrendering to the Lord? Let go and follow Him!

Prayer: "Lord, I surrender all!"

Let Go And Follow Jesus! (Part 1)

"So they (Peter, Andrew, James and John) pulled their boats on shore, left everything and followed him (Jesus)." Luke 5:11

These would be disciples left everything (their businesses, boats, family and co-workers). They now would follow Jesus and "fish for men".

Believer, what is hindering you from "letting go" and following the will of Jesus? Let go and follow Him today!

Prayer: "Lord, I surrender all."

Pick The Harvest!

Jesus reminded his disciples that a harvest of souls was right in front of them (see John 4:30, 35). They had the seeds of the Gospel planted in them by the Samaritan woman (vs. 29, 39) and they were ready to be harvested (vs. 35). John 4:38 reads, "I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work and you have reaped the benefits of their labor."

The same kind of harvest awaits you and I today! Look For It! Pick It!

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for giving me a job in Your fields. Open my eyes to see the harvest. I will gather it for you. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Trusting God To Care For Our Children

In my hometown, today is the first day of school for our children. I am sure that many parents are struggling with placing their children in the care of others. Time doesn't stand still for anyone and our children seem to grow up before our eyes! (For example, my youngest child started high school today! WOW!)

Placing our children in pre-school, elementary, middle or high school or even college can bring about many emotions. Parents, we must trust our children's care to the Lord. Psalm 22:6 reads, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Do you need to stop and claim that promise today?

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for my children. Help me to train them in your ways and then trust you to care for them. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Keeping Our Eyes Spiritual

We sometimes allow our troubles to divert our attention from the "glory" that awaits us in eternity. The scripture reminds us, "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)

How can we overcome this diversion? II Corinthians 4:18 reads, "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

The results? Then we won't be discouraged!

Prayer: "Lord, I thank you that these troubles are temporary! Help me to focus today on You and Your Kingdom and not on my troubles. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

"Happy Are The Persecuted!"

Are you discouraged by the ill treatment you have received from others? Jesus has a word for you . . . "Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers - - wonderful! Be happy about it! Be very glad for a tremendous reward awaits you up in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted too." (Matthew 5:10-12 TLB)

Christian, you are in good company (prophets)! Rejoice!

Prayer: "Lord, remove my hurts and replace them with your happiness! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Speak Up For Christ!

There is a great need for believers to speak out publicly for Jesus Christ. Many need to hear of His love and salvation. Psalm 40:10 reads, "I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly."

Who will you see today that really needs to know Jesus Christ? Pray for them right now and watch for an opportunity to talk with them about Christ today!

Prayer: "Lord, help me not to be ashamed of You. I want to speak up for You today! In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Trust The Lord!

Psalm 40:4 reads, "How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood."

"Blessed" = happy! Satisfied, are those who trust in God. Don't be tempted to trust in the proud (wicked) of this world or those who follow after "falsehood" or "false gods".

"Idols" or "false gods" of our culture might include money or investments, our intelligence, our own strength and determination, even the advice of others.

Believers, trust in your Lord. Allow His Spirit and His words to lead you. The hymn writer penned it well: "Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."

A Prayer Of Moses

"Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. You turn men back to dust, saying, return to dust, O sons of men. The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow for they quickly pass and we fly away. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us - yes, establish the work of our hands." (Psalm 90:1-3, 10, 12, 14, 17)

Think about the words of the prayer. Allow God to speak to you. Make this a personal prayer session with God.

"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon you."

Live For God Today!

James 4:13-15 reads, "Now listen, you who say, today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, if it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

Fulfill the plans God has for you today!

Thanking God For Our Church Family

Paul wrote to the believers at Philippi; "I thank my God everytime I remember you." (Philippians 1:3)

It brought Paul joy to think of his "church" family. Our "church" families should be a special blessing to us as well. Think about them. Who comes to mind? Pause now and thank God for them. Pray for them as well.

Reminder: You are not the only believer trying to live for God. God has many other members in His family as well. Many others are serving the Lord.

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for my Christian family! Amen."

Sins That Hinder Our Prayers

The Bible reveals that sin in a believer's life will hinder their prayers to God. Psalm 66:18 reads, "If I regard iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." The Bible also reveals several specific sins that can hinder prayer.

A Broken Relationship and an Unforgiving Spirit can keep your prayers from being heard by God. For example, husbands and wives must work out any problems, disagreements, etc. These things can hinder the unity of a marriage and also hinder their prayers to God.

Peter writes; "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." (I Peter 3:7)

Question: Have you had a major fight or disagreement with your spouse recently? Get it settled! Forgive! Don't allow your marriage to suffer any longer. Not only will it help your marriage, but it can stop your prayers from being unanswered.

Idolatry is a sin that will hinder our prayers. Anything that we love more than God becomes an idol in our hearts. When idolatry is present in a believer, God won't hear their prayers. The leaders of Israel in Ezekiel's day were guilty of the sin of idolatry. They came to Ezekiel to talk to the Lord. God said, "Son of man, (Ezekiel) these men (leaders of Israel) have set up idols in their hearts and put stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?" (Ezekiel 14:3)

Idols? T.W. Hunt writes, "almost anything can become an idol - Money, Job, Clothes, Another Person, T.V., Entertainment Pleasure, Leisure Time Activities."

Believer, do you love anything more than God? Ask God to show you any sinful idol in your heart! Confess your sin and receive His forgiveness. Then, your prayers can be heard!

Anger is a sin that can hinder our prayers. I Timothy 2:8 reads; "I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without wrath (anger) or disputing."

"When people become angry, they often lose control of themselves or hold grudges for a long time" (T.W. Hunt). That kind of anger against others will hinder our prayers!

Believer, are you angry with someone? Quickly confess your sin to God and remove the hindrance to unanswered prayers.

Helping The Weak

Prayers That Are Answered, "Yes"!

Meditate on the meaning of the following scripture from John 15:7-8. "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit; showing yourselves to be my disciples."

T.W. Hunt writes, "If Christ's message abides or remains in us over a period of time, the way we think and the way we pray are affected. These prove that we really are learners of Him. Abiding in Christ has important implications in your life. Your time with the Lord is regular and continuous. You constantly walk in fellowship with God. By definition, abiding cannot be intermittent. When you abide in Christ, you pray without ceasing. One thing you do without ceasing is breathing. Prayer is as needful and indispensable to your spiritual life as breathing is to your physical life."

Praise God for answering our prayers!

Are you burdened? Do you feel forced to carry a burden that seems to heavy to bear? Look to God. He specializes in lifting man's burdens!

"He lifts the burdens from those bent down beneath their loads." (Psalm 146:8, TLB)

"Called To The Mission Fields"

Did you know that all believers are called to the "mission field"?

Jesus said, "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19a).

The "mission field" that all believers are called to is "wherever you are". Our places of employment, buisnesses, neighborhoods. The people we meet everyday! (One of the members of our church recently led a 96 year old man to faith in Christ while purchasing a garden tiller!) You can win others to Christ. Ask God to open your eyes today to the opportunities you will have to share Christ!

Forgive Them

"Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13)

Scripture teaches us to forgive others as Jesus Christ has forgiven us. Christians must not hold grudges. Our example is Jesus, who on the cross prayed, "Father, forgive them." Jesus initiated the forgiveness of our sins before we ever confessed that we were sinners! We should forgive others before they ever ask for our forgiveness or if they never ask for it. What a challenge!

Question: Who have you not yet forgiven? Forgive them right now. Experience the joy of forgiving someone!

A Labor Of Love

"For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name..." (Hebrews 6:10)

The summer season is almost upon us. The daily schedules of those with school age children will change dramatically. Many will enjoy that much needed vacation and hopefully a temporary decrease in the demands of life.

Yet, the "labor of love" is a year long work. The work of the church must never take a vacation. The eternal souls of men are at stake!

A Godly Heritage

A Godly Heritage

Recently, I participated in a funeral service that lasted over 2 1/2 hours (no, this was not due to long winded preachers). Everyone of the deceased man's seven children shared memories concerning their father to those that were present. It was a wonderful, worshipful service that I will never forget. It was all very appropriate because of the Godly heritage the deceased man left behind.

Paul said of Timothy's heritage . . . "I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother, Eunice . . ."

Notice; "first lived" - "first" speaks of the godly heritage Timothy was blessed with.

Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Winning The Battle With Sin

"Winning The Battle With Sin"

Do you struggle with a certain sin? Here are a few reminders from God . . .

1. God will forgive any sin when we confess our sin, repent of sin and ask for God's forgiveness. (I John 1:9 reads, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.")

2. Jesus died so that you might have power over sin in this present life.
Titus 2:11-12 reads, "the grace of God . . . It teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

Struggling? Ask God to forgive and help you today. Repent of your sin by His power and trust in His power to live godly in this day. May you experience the Victory in Jesus, today!

United In Christ

"United In Christ"

Jesus prayed, as recorded in John 17:20-21, "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

Did you notice that Jesus prayed for future believers like you and me? He prayed for believers to be unified so that "the world may believe".

Would you say that you are united with your fellow believers? Sometimes we find ourselves in needless division and disunity. Take steps today toward restoration. By God's power, forgive them. That is what Jesus would do and wants you to do. Be an answer to His prayer today!

Reaching Others For Jesus!

Jesus commanded us to, "go and make disciples". We must be willing to consider new ways to reach new people with the gospel. CAUTION: We must make sure our ways (methods) are biblical, moral and ethical. Believers and churches can become stagnate in our witness when we are unwilling to try new ways to reach others.

Seven Steps To Stagnation by Erwin Soukup

1. We have never done it that way before.
2. We are not ready for that.
3. We are doing all right without trying that.
4. We tried it once before.
5. We don't have the money.
6. It's not our job.
7. Something like that want work around here.

Let us not become stagnate. Go and make disciples!

Are you anxious or afraid? Worried about your job or the economy? Maybe a family situation or a health related problem. Psalm 56:3 reads, "When I am afraid I will trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?" Notice "whose word I praise" - - - "word" refers to God's words such as His promises to come to the aid of His people. Psalm 50:15 reads, "and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will honor me . . . " What a wonderful promise!

Christian, you can trust your Lord! Ask Him to remove your fears. Trust the promises He has given you.

"Blessing Upon Blessing"

How blessed we are as believers! John writes, "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" (I John 3:1) "Lavished?" Webster defines "lavish" as "to expend or give in great amounts or without limit." How blessed we are! In John 1:16 we read, "from the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another." Edwin Blum comments: "Blessings come to Christians as waves continue to come to the shore. The Christian life is the constant reception of one evidence of God's grace replacing another." (John 1:16)

May we, as believers, exclaim with joy; "I Am Blessed!!"

Grace To You!

Come Before Him And Worship!

Only two days until Sunday and the start of our Revival services. I am expecting a wonderful day of worship and fellowship together. Psalm 100:1-2, 4 reads, "Shout for joy to the Lord. . . worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. . . enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name . . ."

"Enter His Gates" "Enter" involves participation. Plan to join us in worship this Sunday.
"Enter" involves preparation.

Here are some tips to prepare yourself for worship this Sunday.
1. Pray for your own spiritual preparation
2. Ask God to be blessed and bless the worshippers
3. Expect God to work in our sevices.
4. Don't overwork yourself Saturday (tired believers sleep in services!)
5. Get to bed early Saturday night.
6. Sunday morning - Start your day with prayer and scripture.
7. Listen to Christian music as you get ready for services.

Try applying these simple steps of preparation for worship this week. I plan to join you Sunday and worship our Lord together.

Blessings!

Enjoy Being Healthy!

As many of you know, my mother recently had hip replacement surgery. She continues to improve everyday. This certainly has been a reminder of how thankful we all should be for our health. Later today, I am taking her on a shopping trip (FOR A WALKING CANE!) I never thought we would take a "mother and son" shopping trip to purchase one of those!! At least, she will be graduating from the walker. How we thank God for our health. As mother says, "she is thankful that she can walk". May we all be reminded of the blessing of good health.

The apostle John wrote his friend, Gaius, in III John 3, "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well". Pray for the health of others.

Prayer: "Lord, I thank you for my good health and most of all the good health of my salvation. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

It's Time For A Revival!

It's Time For A Revival!

During my childhood, we heated our home with a wood heater. We would restock the heater with wood every morning and rekindle the fire.

In II Timothy 1:6, Paul writes to Timothy; "I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God." Even though Timothy was an active, gifted believer, he still needed revival or a rekindling of his faith.

This month at Sierra, we have scheduled revival meetings. Pray for a real, rekindling of our faith. Plan to participate in each service. Expect God to do great things!! Let us all thank Him in advance for all He is going to do in and among us.

See you this month,

Stay Faithful!

Jesus' Resurrection Gives Incentive For Believers To Persevere!

In I Corinthians 15, Paul reminds the readers of the importance of the resurrection. He then reminds them that serving God is worthwhile. In verse 58, he writes; "Therefore my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

Believers, stay faithful! Keep serving! It will be worth it all!

Jesus Washes The Disciple's Feet

Jesus Washes The Disciple's Feet

On Thursday of the Passion Week, Jesus washed his disciples' feet. He provided them with an example of humble service. Warren Wiersbe writes, "Jesus knew that there was a competitive spirit in the hearts of his disciples. In fact, within a few minutes the disciples were disputing over which of them was the greatest. He gave them an unforgettable lesson in humility and by His actions rebuked their selfishness and pride." The next day, Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act in service in history as He willingly died on the cross for our sins!

Prayer: "Lord, help me to show humility by my actions. In Jesus' Name. Amen"

Read John 13:1-17

The Passion Week Of Christ

The week in Jesus' life leading up to and including His sufferings, death and resurrection. Bible scholars generally believe that the Passion Week occurred as follows:

Sunday - The triumphant entry of Jesus in Jerusalem
Monday - Jesus cleanses the Temple
Tuesday - Jesus encounters a series of questions from the religious leaders
Wednesday - ?
Thursday - Last Supper, Gethsemane
Friday - Jesus before the courts , beaten, crucified
Saturday - Jesus entombed (Jewish Sabbath)
Sunday - Day of His resurrection

Notice on Wednesday, the Bible doesn't reveal what Jesus was doing. Have you ever wondered "what Jesus was doing in your life?" Maybe you cannot see any evidence that He is at work. Be encouraged! Just like Jesus was in the middle of His greatest work on Wednesday of the Passion Week, His greatest work in your life might be just ahead. Trust Him!

Prayer: Take a few moments and thank Him for His unseen works.

I had the opportunity this morning to travel to Greenville and tour the Luke 19:10 Ministries Warehouse. What a ministry! They reuse items from our churches (literature, books, offering envelopes, etc.) to supply believers all over the world with these greatly needed items. All Free Of Charge! These are items that we would throw away!

If you (or your church) have items to donate, give me a call.

My Sins Are Forgiven!

What a wonderful day of worship and fellowship yesterday at Sierra! God touched my heart with a fresh reminder of what He did for me!

II Corinthians 5:21 reads, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." Thank God! My sins are forgiven!

Pause and thank God for your salvation!

Have a great day!

In God I Trust

"In God I Trust!"

Psalm 91:1-2 reads; "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Are you trusting in the Lord for your security? If so, tell Him today in praise! If not, why not? God cares for you and wants to have a relationship with you!

Prayer: "Lord, I thank you for the peace and security that I have in You! Help me to rest in your care. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

"Help The Weak"

"Help The Weak"

"And we urge you, brothers. . . help the weak, be patient with everyone."

(I Thess. 5:14)

Who are the weak? The reference is to believers whose Christian life is unstable or immature. They have not yet learned to totally lean on God. They rely heavily on other mature believers.

How can mature believers help them? "Help" means to "hold on to someone".

1. Don't let go when they fall! Hold On!
2. Continue to pray for them! Hold On In Prayer!
3. Encourage them in some way. Hold On!
4. Be patient. Don't give up on them. Hold On!

Who needs your help today?

Prayer: "Lord, use me to help ____________ today. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

"Thankful"

"Thankful"

"Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ." (Eph. 5:20)

T.W. Hunt writes, "True gratitude is not a reaction; it is a response. Reaction can be negative or positive. Reaction waits for an event. Response to God in gratitude can be a continuous attitude of your heart." True thankfulness flows out of a relationship with one's God.

Stop and give thanks unto God. Thank Him for your salvation!

A Good Start

"A Good Start"

Yesterday, we began a second Sunday Morning Worship Service at Sierra. Not only was it a new service, but also new music, singers, instruments, etc. I appreciate all of the good comments yesterday! What did you think? I would be interested in any helpful suggestions. E-mail me.

Here is a scripture for today . . . "Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken" (Psalm 55:22). Take a moment a remind yourself of this awesome promise of God.

Speak Boldly

"Lord . . . enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness . . . and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."
(Acts 4:29-30)

Please pray for our church today. Pray that God would use all of us as we begin our new worship service this Sunday. Also, pray for the 24 members who will help start this ministry. To God Be The Glory!

Don't forget to invite someone to our services. I look forward to seeing you at Sierra this Sunday!

A Walk Through Death's Shadows

A Walk Through Death's Shadows

Last night, I attended a visitation service at a funeral home in Easley. The family, whom I have known for many years, were gathered in remembrance of a dear mother who recently passed away. Their sorrows were multiplied as their father had to be admitted to the hospital yesterday and was unable to attend the visitation.

How difficult it is to see our loved ones suffer! Yet, God reminds us. . . "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you (Lord) are with me. . ." (Psalm 23:4).

God promises us that He will never leave us! He will always care for His followers. Praise His Name!

Prayer: "Lord, I thank you for reminding me that you are with us in life or death."

Help Wanted! People Harvesters

Help Wanted! People Harvesters

"When he (Jesus) saw the crowds . . . Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" (Matthew 9:36-38).

What can you do? Pray! Participate! Proclaim Jesus!

Tell someone today about Jesus. Invite someone to our church this week.

SPLASH!

I just received a new book written by Ken and Paula Hemphill entitled, "SPLASH". SPLASH is an acrostic for Show People Love And Share Him. Sounds like a biblical command, right?

Members of Sierra Baptist Church will have a new opportunity "to love others and show Christ" beginning March 9th. Our new additional Sunday Morning Worship Service will also be an outreach service. We, at Sierra, must decide; Is this new service (and all other Sierra ministries!) just for us as believers or is it ministry for God's Kingdom? We cannot be just "keepers of the acquarium", we must also be "fishers of men" (Matt. 4:19).

SPLASH may be a new book, but it is just a fresh reminder of Christ's original commands to us. What an opportunity! Go Ahead, SPLASH!

Blessings!

Share Your Story!

Share Your Story!

Are you excited about your relationship with Jesus Christ? All of us that have been saved for many years would do well to see if that "new believer" zeal is still evident in our lives.

I Peter 3:15 reminds us; "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."

Share your story!

Showers Sent From God

Showers Sent From God

Powerful thunderstorms took center stage outside my study window this morning. These awesome occurancies of nature should point us to an awesome God! The people of Judah acknowledged this truth (sadly only after God's pronounced judgement) in Jeremiah 14:22. "Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, O lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this."

Friends, may we all remember "our hope is in God!"

The Widow's Offering

In the story of the poor widow's offering, Jesus taught His disciples two important lessons concerning worshipful giving.

Lesson #1 - God desires that His disciples give generously. "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others" (Mark 13:43b). Remember, she only gave two mites! Very little value! Generous? It was everything she had to live on!

Lesson #2 - God desires that His disciples give sincerely. "They gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty" (Mark 13:44). She sacrificed to give!

May God teach us these lessons as well!

Blessings!

Consider the Heavens!

Last night, a complete lunar eclipse occured. Such phenomena gain our attention. We can't but think about the awesomeness of the universe in which we live.
In the Bible, the Psalmist wrote; "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the Son of man that you care for him?" (Psalm 8:3-4)
We seemingly are insignificant, weak creatures in the midst of an awesome, powerful universe. Yet, God Cares For Us! Praise Him Today!

"Days Of Uncertainty"

During these uncertain times, many are wondering if anyone can help us. Are you anxious about these days? Read the following reminder from the Bible, "Many are asking, "who can show us any good?" (who can help?). Let the light of your face shine upon us O Lord. You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound." (refers to times of great prosperity) Psalm 4:6-7.
Look to God for inward peace and joy. Do not remain anxious. (Phil. 4:6-7). Rest in God's care today.
Prayer: "Lord, I thank You that You are my helper and my joy! Help me to rest in Your care today. Remove the anxiousness from my soul and replace it with Your joy. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

A Prayer For Safety

Are you feeling insecure? Fearful? Psalm 142 is a prayer asking God to protect. Verse 3a reads: "When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you (Lord) who knows my way." Believe Jesus can and will encourage your spirit. Call on Him today!
Prayer: "Lord, I feel insecure at this moment. The fears of my life have overwhelmed me. I believe that You can strengthen and guide me. I ask You to help me today! In Jesus' Name! Amen."
Read Psalm 142.
